THE NEARBY WILD

By woods, waterways and along the coast, Signe explores the "nearby wild" that surrounds us.  Observing the interaction of earth and sky as a painter, she captures grassland clouds, and moonlit pastures, with a poet’s vision.  Her photographs are vignettes of the wildlife inhabiting places where she paints landscapes.  Together these art forms create a narrative that she expands upon in mixed media paintings & direct nature prints.

A University of the Arts, Honors grad, she also studied at PAFA & Lake Placid School of Art.  She is featured in Catherine Quillman’s book “100 Artists of the Brandywine Valley”. 

 An instructor of botanical illustration and mixed media, her illustrations can be found in books, magazines, and educational media. Her award winning work is included in public collections across the country.

Signe's interest in the natural world extends to creating large hand cast paper compositions integrating stones, sand, soil & plant fibers, which have been exhibited with the Guild of Papermakers at universities & galleries.
